Rydia's Tale by Aurellion Rydia's Tale by Aurellion
This particular Rydia shot allows you to see some of the hand-beaded details on the costume, particularly on the skirt, bag, belt and stockings. I'm still picking little green sequins and seed beads out of our carpet, it's rather ridiculous!

Love the setting of this photo - it's very fitting of FFIV and also a representation of New Zealand, NZ ftw! :D

I entered this costume into the Auckland Armageddon 2009 cosplay contest with my Clan Biscuit homies, ~JVCA and ~SowiloWitch. We came away with 'Best Group' and 'Best Performance' which can be seen here - [link] We wanted to present a skit that was quite interpretational but also entertaining, I hope that comes across.

Costume, model & make-up are all by me.

Can I please use this picture in a video of Rydia that I'm putting together? It'll be a compilation of clips and images set to an orchestral remix of her theme. I will ink to you and credit you if you say yes. What do you say?

holy cow, this is amazing. I'm thinking of cosplaying for auckgeddon 2011, and i'm already intimidated. D: How long did you take to make an outfit like this? since i'm a newbie to cosplaying, i was wondering if you'd have any advice revolving around time - how long do you think it would take a complete beginner to put together a whole outfit? (i'd be cosplaying as Seto Kaiba, by the way. this is a pic of him (i admit, i'm doing it because i love his coat): [link]) Thank you so much, and you look beautiful in the picture.

Thank you!

I worked on and off Rydia for just under a year- most of the time was spent remaking things though as I had no idea what I was doing. (Most of what you see was the 3rd remake of things, and I would have liked to go back in and add layers of detail but didn't quite manage too.) I find that starting early is a good thing anyway - last minute rushes to meet a convention deadline are never fun. I'd basically start as soon as you can and just chip away at it - you could even get it done before the convention! This is always good as it gives a good test run for the costume and gives you time to do any touch-ups. Cosplay is a hobby - I think that many people forget this - so work on it when you feel like it, don't think you need to have a defined date for starting or finishing. It's much better to not rush things if you don't have to, so don't worry if you don't manage to get it done for the con.

Having said all that, you can get it done a lot quicker than a year time-frame! Don't let that scare you, I was dawdling with it really. You could probably churn it out in 2-3 weeks if you put your mind to it. :) Good luck!
